Medical 3D Printing — Frequently Asked Questions
Everything surgeons and hospitals want to know about working with Osteo3d.
General
- What makes Osteo3d different from other medical 3D printing companies?
We are pioneers for medical 3d printing in India. We came up with our solutions way back in 2014. We were the first to incorporate ISO 13485 certification in this domain.
Over a period of more than a decade, we have collaborated with surgeons across various specialities and developed solutions for them. Our design and software expertise coupled with experience in design for fabrication and clinical knowledge gained over 12+ years has made us implement the right solutions with no compromise on patient safety.
Call us conservative - but we will not implement a solution that is risky for the patient in the long run!
- Which surgical specialties do you serve?
Head, Neck & Facial: Orthognathic surgery, Cranio-Maxillofacial (CMF) surgery, Craniofacial surgery, Oral & Maxillofacial surgery, ENT / Head & Neck surgery, Plastic & Reconstructive surgery.
Neurosurgery & Spine: Cranial neurosurgery, Spinal neurosurgery, Spine surgery, Cranioplasty.
Orthopedics: Orthopedic surgery, Orthopedic oncology, Pediatric fracture surgery.
Pediatric: Pediatric cranial remodeling, Craniosynostosis surgery.
General, Vascular & Cardiac: General surgery (hepatic, renal, vascular), Cardiovascular surgery, Cardiac surgery.
Oncology: Oncology / Cancer surgery.
Dental: Dental surgery, Dental implant planning, Prosthodontics.
If your specialty is not listed, contact us — our core workflow adapts to any anatomy captured in DICOM CT or MRI.
- Do you serve hospitals outside Bangalore?
Yes. We serve hospitals across India. Because our entire workflow is online — from DICOM upload through design approval to dispatch — geography is not a constraint.
We use priority courier for physical products (models, guides, devices) and provide tracking details at dispatch.
Ordering & Process
- How do I place an order?
Upload your patient's medical imaging data securely through our website. Our team reviews the case and responds with a design proposal and quote promptly.
No account is required to upload. You receive a unique Case ID that tracks your order through every stage.
- What file format do you need?
We accept standard DICOM CT (preferred) and MRI datasets. Export directly from your PACS as a DICOM folder and upload via the portal. No pre-conversion or compression is necessary.
For organ models we recommend contrast-enhanced CT or MRI. For hard tissue anatomy, non-contrast CT with 0.6 mm or finer slice thickness gives the best results.
- What happens after I upload the DICOM?
1. Our team reviews the scan quality and confirms it is suitable for the requested case.
2. A design proposal and quote are sent promptly.
3. On approval, we begin design and manufacturing.
4. Fabricated items are dispatched by priority courier with full tracking.
Technical
- How accurate are your products?
Surgical guides and implants are manufactured to ±0.2 mm dimensional tolerance (±0.1 mm on critical mating surfaces for implants). Medical models are printed at ±0.3 mm.
Every product is dimensionally inspected against the design file before dispatch.
Compliance & Regulatory
- Are you ISO 13485 certified?
Yes. Osteo3d (df3d creations private limited) is ISO 13485:2016 certified. Our quality management system covers design, manufacturing, and post-market surveillance for all patient-specific devices.
- How is patient data protected?
We are HIPAA compliant. Patient DICOM data is transmitted over TLS-encrypted connections, stored in access-controlled environments, and processed under strict data handling protocols.
We do not share patient data with third parties. Data is retained only for the duration required to fulfil the order and any applicable regulatory retention period.
Pricing & Turnaround
- How are products priced?
Pricing is case-specific and depends on the type of case, anatomical complexity, and material selection. We provide a fixed quote after reviewing the DICOM upload — before you commit to the order.
Medical models are our most accessible product. Custom titanium implants represent the highest price point. Contact us or upload a case to receive a quote.
- What is your standard turnaround time?
Turnaround varies by product type and case complexity. Our team provides an estimated timeline along with the design proposal for each case.
Urgent cases are flagged at upload and receive prioritised scheduling. Contact us to discuss your timeline requirements.
